Frustration
Well, I have been trying (for ten whole minutes, I think) to load a fancy post with pictures of Amy and Pearce and appropriate text neatly lined up to a corresponding picture. I have found, however, that I am inept when it comes to loading pictures and neatly lined up text.
Some other time I will put up pictures, I guess. Maybe when I have more time and not at the end of a work day AND week when I'm about to lose it anyway. What I'd like right now is a comfy couch, my favorite throw, a good book or movie, and my Husby to snuggle. Not a stupid computer program that can't read my mind.
We had a nice cool spell today. I don't think it got past 80. Of course, this didn't make much difference to me from my vantage point of the freezing office. I was in my shawl as usual.
Trey is reading Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters. I finished it last week and then blazed through Anne McCaffrey's first book in the Dragonriders of Pern series, Dragonflight. After that I picked up Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. As you can tell from the title, it's about something going wrong. I haven't gotten through the first chapter, and I'm so filled with dread that nothing has coaxed me to pick it up again. Trey tried to convince me that it will get better and be okay in the end. But I've read too many Russian novels to believe that. I used to love reading classic literature, but the past several years I haven't been able to bear anything more intense than Jane Austen. I'm not sure why this is. Some day I'd like to be able to get that M.A. I've always dreamed about, but if I can't read a short Russian novel, I don't see much hope there. I used to get really excited about engaging my mind with ideas and concepts that were new or that were expansions on my current understanding. Now all I worry about is doing the laundry and paying the bills on time.

Not sure I'm happy with the direction my priorities are taking.
Of course, Trey has been a good priority to establish. And I should mention that I still do discuss new ideas and concepts, and he is usually the one who instigates such discussions. I'd be totally lost without him; lost from my scholastic self, even.
I am just letting my brain get as out of shape as my muscles. They're so weak that it takes massive effort for even a small workout, which is so pitiful compared to what I used to be capable of that I just give up. Looks like I need self-discipline.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I didn't mean to go into all of this when I started this post, but it's been a nice moment of self-discovery---or self-revelation---or conviction---or something. Thanks.

Aunt Ree
Richmond Pearce Phillips was born by c-section Tuesday, August 20, 2008 at 6:05 a.m. He's adorable!! Amy Claire is absolutely exhausted. She labored 23 hours (that about what you did, April?). Pearce has a little black eye because he was trying to come out face first, and the nurses had Amy pushing for a good hour or more. The dr. didn't know whether he would have fit if he had been positioned correctly anyway (which is why the c-section happened). 8 pounds, 6 ounces and 21 1/2 inches. He already has little chub cheeks and is all pink and precious. So far he has been sleeping between nursings and has hardly fussed at all (but I haven't heard the report from last night). Auntie Ree got to change his myconeum diaper!!! I know I probably shouldn't be excited about changing a diaper, but it was so wonderful!
Hopefully I will put up a few pics of him soon. His eye and forehead are looking better in some ways (the swelling has gone down tremendously), but worse in others (the bruise is more black and blue).
I am trying to hang around and help as much as I can. Recovery will be slower because of the surgery, and Dad is still recovering from his pulled muscle (which means he's still semi-crippled), so poor Mommy will have her hands full.
Thanks for all your prayers and messages!

New Post!
Some day I hope to get back into semi-regular blogging. I had a few spurts of inspiration a few months ago, but squelched them for the option of sleep or reading and haven't really had any more blog-ish thoughts.
Here are a few random funnies for you:
My grandma and aunt hooked me up with a great eye doctor who identified the reason I haven't been able to wear contacts for about three months. I have dry eyes. I was not wearing the right contacts, and I was using nice, cheap Wal-Mart solution that effectively strips any remaining moisture off the surface of the lens. So now I have contacts for people with dry eyes and more expensive--but helpful--solution. So I've been wearing my contacts a lot the past week.
Everybody has been commenting on my hair. Considering I haven't had a haircut in almost three months, I now believe that my wearing glasses affects peoples' perception of my hair more than I ever realized. Oh, and all the hair comments have been positive. So whenever I want a new haircut, I'll just wear my glasses for a few days and then--presto-chango!--back to the contacts.
I got my car's oil changed on Friday. The car-man called me outside to tell me all the things that I needed to have replaced or changed, etc., and offered to install the windshield wipers I had sitting on my back seat. After instructing him to change the transmission fluid, I opened the driver side back door to get the wiper. A different man was leaning in the car through the front passenger side door. Our eyes met. He explained that the little, innocent white "wafers" he was dropping in my car were air fresheners. I went back to the waiting room until they had finished.
After paying for it all (eep!) I got in my car and almost had to get right back out. The baby powder-scented air "freshener" was a bit strong. I made it back to work and decided I would take the freshener out. I found one and read it. The instructions said something along the lines of placing ONE wafer under a seat. I rooted around and found four. Left my window cracked for the rest of the afternoon. On the way home from work, the "freshness" about killed me. My poor dry eyes were burning away, and my lungs began to constrict. I looked around after I got home and found two more. Saturday Trey and I drove around with the windows down. Sunday we took some kids home with us from church, and we all almost got sick from the fumes. Trey and I found four more of the rotten boogers.
Today I thought it would be better. hm. After suffering all the way home from work with the window rolled down all the way, I check again and found two more. sheesh!! Did he dump a whole box in there?! Anyway, I'll let y'all know if I find any more. I don't have any hope of not smelling baby powder when I go out to my car in the morning.
Speaking of baby powder. I need to wash my hands. I touched those things.
