Richmond Pearce Phillips was born by c-section Tuesday, August 20, 2008 at 6:05 a.m. He's adorable!! Amy Claire is absolutely exhausted. She labored 23 hours (that about what you did, April?). Pearce has a little black eye because he was trying to come out face first, and the nurses had Amy pushing for a good hour or more. The dr. didn't know whether he would have fit if he had been positioned correctly anyway (which is why the c-section happened). 8 pounds, 6 ounces and 21 1/2 inches. He already has little chub cheeks and is all pink and precious. So far he has been sleeping between nursings and has hardly fussed at all (but I haven't heard the report from last night). Auntie Ree got to change his myconeum diaper!!! I know I probably shouldn't be excited about changing a diaper, but it was so wonderful!
Hopefully I will put up a few pics of him soon. His eye and forehead are looking better in some ways (the swelling has gone down tremendously), but worse in others (the bruise is more black and blue).
I am trying to hang around and help as much as I can. Recovery will be slower because of the surgery, and Dad is still recovering from his pulled muscle (which means he's still semi-crippled), so poor Mommy will have her hands full.
Thanks for all your prayers and messages!

What! I didn't know Amy Claire was even expecting! Congrats!
that was similar to my labor, but ella tucked her chin, making it so much easier for me. ella and little bear were about the same size, too.
his nickname is "tater"
Is aunt Ree short for aunt Hilary?
Tater? Sounds like it could be "Mashed" tater
I'm sure your help is appreciated
:-)
what about tater-tots? or is that for the toddler years ;-)
How did your dad pull a muscle? I guess if he takes muscle relaxers, his sermons may suffer : ) might be funny though.
Ree is the name given to me at my first real babysitting job when I was 12. It stuck. Dad still calls me that. I thought it'd be a good aunt name. Sounds more peppy than Aunt Hilary.
Nate is stuck on calling him Tater, but I think Dad will call him Little Bear, which was his in utero name.
The pulled muscle came during a game of tennis. The mind said, "You can do it; you're just 30." The body said, "Snap!" He's been keeping it elevated and trying not to put weight on it. He's actually backed off the crutches a lot just while I've been here.
well, i guess "aunt ree" is better than "aunt hil."
actually, i think "aunt ree" is very cute. i realized that you can't hear tone on the internet.
I call him 'little bear' too.
Well, I call him that in my mind, since that is all I have ever heard him called as a pre-born lil tater. I hope to go and see him soon and call him that in person!
