Lent

This week I've been wondering what's up with Lent. And I've also been wondering what's up with me sitting at a desk all day looking at a computer screen only to come home, sit at my desk, and look at a computer screen.

But back to Lent. Actually, I don't have any thoughts about Lent to share. Several people at my office mentioned it, and some talked about what they're giving up for Lent. I thought, hey, I could give up sweets and candy, lose some weight, and fit into all my clothes again. Somehow it didn't seem appropriate to do that in the name of Lent, so I've decided to do it just because that's what I decided. And thankfully, I didn't decide with a time limit, so a newer decision---such as "eat sweets and candy"---will override that one.

I started organizing the books on my shelves. I made it through alphabetizing my fiction and reference books, but haven't made any more progress. I'm supposed to be working on it right now, but I decided to redo my blog instead. Though I did add a list of books I have in my library that I haven't read yet. And I didn't even include the language books that I want to study. Memorizing a new vocabulary unfortunately takes more than one read-through.

In hunting for some good GRE study books, I've discovered that Barron's is superior to Kaplan. At least that's what the Amazon customer reviewers think. Princeton's was mentioned, but not discussed. Speaking of Amazon, I've also started compiling a massive wish list of books I'd like to read some day. Most of them I don't know much about other than that they sound interesting to me.

Enough procrastination! To the shelves I go!

I like the new look!

In Girl Meets God, Lauren Winner's spiritual advisor asks her to give up reading for Lent. That has been an interesting idea to me ever since I read it. I'm not sure I could do it.

That seems impossible . . . you couldn't read traffic signs, medicine bottles, calendars, heck, you couldn't do work. I'm not sure I like that book.

also - an interesting contrast in your friends list - selfless vs. sensational...reading material analogy: i guess she's the bible and i'm the tabloid. ;-)

you should alphabetize your library according to the first and second words of each book
