waiting

I have a day of waiting ahead of me. It's another hour and thirty mins before the van shuttles me to the airport, then another three and 1/2 hours before my flight leaves, then another 6 hours or so until I end up in Jackson (hopefully). I suppose in light of a month 11 hours isn't so long to wait.

I really thought I wasn't going to make it through this last week, but I did! Most of the reason I did was that God provided some wonderful friends for me to spend time with and get to know. The time passed and I didn't realize it because I was making some closer friends. I would always talk with people at meals and such, but I hadn't really made any 'buddies' before this week. Now I have a reason to be sad for leaving (which still doesn't outweigh the joy of returning). We have facebook to keep us in touch, though! ha!

It seems like this day will never be over, but then it seemed like this month would never be over. And I have mixed feelings about wanting time to pass quickly. At some point I'm going to look back and wonder why I wanted time to pass so quickly. There's definitely something to be said for enjoying each moment.

Right now I'm just enjoying each moment that I look forward to being back with Trey! Yay!

cleaning up

Well, after a minor mountain involving bridesmaids dresses, wedding planning is humming along smoothly. The church and pastor are scheduled, the pianist reserved, the reception site booked, the rehearsal dinner planned, the photographer booked, the wedding director chosen, the bridesmaids' dresses ordered, the reception menu planned, and the bridesmaids' luncheon menu chosen. Thanks to my wonderful family this has all been accomplished while I've been in California for the last month!

Now all I have is: music for the ceremony (any favorite suggestions, Embly?), invitations, cake (this should be a tasty endeavor), flowers for the ceremony, tuxes for the guys, and some fun parties to go to.

Oh yeah, and my dress. I guess that should be more in the front of my mind. I have such a hard time shopping for clothes anyway, the thought of a wedding dress is simply numbing. It's probably the most important article of clothing I'll purchase. Wow.

I haven't thought about linguistics much for the past two days. Is that sentence well-formed? I should say, I haven't thought much about linguistics for the past two days. Maybe? Hm.

things of note after three weeks

• Linguists are trying to turn language into science, to boil it down to a mathematical formula. Duff? Ryan? Is this a slight to math? to language? Maybe I haven't gotten a broad enough picture of things, but I don't really see how language can be an equation. It changes. Does math change?
• All the seating at Stanford is made for people with longer legs than I have. It's getting uncomfortable.
• The cafeteria has some kind of bagel with chocolate chips in it. I must find this bagel.
• I have quads of steel---after 'hovering' over public toilet seats for a month. Our showers and toilets are in the community arrangement.
• I am going to miss being able to leave my window open 24/7.
